Analog vs IP Solutions

Analog vs IP Solutions

For a long time analog surveillance solutions have lead the way amongst retailers looking to protect their investments and products.

As both technology and retailers needs haves moved on, analog systems have struggled to meet the demands needed for modern surveillance solutions in terms of image resolution and central management.

Of course, a complete overhaul from analog to IP to meet those demands does not come cheap, so being able to integrate older systems with the new ones over time became an important factor when looking to upgrade.

A great example of the benefits of IP camera systems is the use of high resolution 360 degree fisheye cameras. These can cover entire areas with no blind spots, whereas you would probably need 2-3 analog cameras to cover the same area. Apart from the obvious disparity in image resolution, it would also mean an increased risk of something going wrong with multiple cameras being wired into a central hub, not to mention the extra storage needed for all the recordings.

Modern systems can support 32, 64 or even 128 channel solutions, all recording in full HD. Of course, these require huge storage spaces for continuous recording, retention periods and no video loss. All of this is covered with large hard drives capable of storing the recordings with backup systems in place in case of a loss of power.

All of the above is only the tip of the iceberg, there’s a vast array of different options out there to cover an ever growing list of consumer needs.
