How to Bolster Your Home Security in 2022
The new year is finally here. For many people, it’s an opportunity to turn a new page – getting started on improvements you’ve been putting off throughout 2021. Nowhere is that more important than your own home’s security.
All too often, it’s pushed to the back of your mind and only brought forward when someone attempts or succeeds at breaking into your home. In this post, we’ll look at some simple security mainstays that you can implement to stop your home becoming a target in 2022.
Keep it simple and achievable with alarms
One of the most common reasons New Year’s resolutions fail is that people focus on the end goal rather than how they will achieve it. Too many people say they’re going to lose weight, for example, without thinking of the regular exercise and healthy eating that’s required. As a result, the resolution invariably fails.
In terms of home security, the most simple and achievable equipment for protection is an intruder alarm. According to Yahoo, 9 out of 10 burglars avoid homes with alarm systems. What’s more, if they encounter an alarm, they simply won’t attack the home.
Above all else, burglars are looking for an easy target. Why break into a home that will alert everyone to what you’re doing, when there’s another home you can be in and out of undetected? If your home doesn’t already have an intruder alarm installed, 2022 is the year to change that.
Improving security with cameras
While the majority of burglars avoid homes with intruder alarms, there’s always the chance that one will try their hand. With burglars spending less than 60 seconds breaking into a home, even the fastest response could be too late to stop them getting what they need and fleeing the scene.
In these cases, video surveillance is the best weapon to have in your arsenal. Well-positioned CCTV cameras can capture footage of any opportunist thieves breaking into your home. That gives the police the best chance of catching the culprits and retrieving what they took. Let’s not forget that home insurance doesn’t cover sentimental value.
On top of that, the very sight of cameras is another deterrent. In 2017, a panel of former burglars put CCTV at the top of their list of effective deterrents. If you’ve already got an alarm and want to improve security, or you’re installing a new alarm and want added assurance, surveillance cameras are our recommendation for the new year!
