Where Should Home Security Cameras Be Installed?
If you’re reading this, you’re probably already aware that home security systems can significantly decrease the risk of burglary or home invasion. However, did you know that different locations can make your cameras even more effective?
If it doesn’t have the right position and angle, your camera may not be able to get a clear image of someone attempting to enter your property. Without a clear image, it can be very difficult to catch a thief and make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else in your neighbourhood. Here are a few tips on where to put your security camera.
1. The front door
You may be surprised to know that 34% of burglars use the front door instead of any other entrance in the home. Even more surprisingly, it’s often because burglars are aware that front doors can easily be left open.
How many times have you forgotten to lock your front door before going to bed? Do you leave your front door open while you’re sunbathing in the garden? Placing a camera at the front door means burglars are less likely to try and enter and you’ll get a good image of them if they do.
2. The back door
Some thieves will attempt to break into a property using the back door. Why? Back door entrances are generally not as well lit as the front door and are often less secure. Installing a camera at the back entrance could make all the difference. Make sure the security camera is out of reach and protected, so burglars can’t throw anything at it.
3. Off-street windows
Many intruders will also try and enter a property through windows at the back of the property, where neighbors can’t see them. It can be difficult to position cameras to capture footage at these windows which makes it all the easier for intruders. However, you can hide cameras in your garden, pointed directly at your windows. Tall trees on your property often make the best positions for pointing cameras towards windows.
4. Second floor
Thieves are well aware that valuables are often kept on the second floor. Perhaps you have a jewelry box full of sentimental and valuable pieces. Or maybe you take your wallet upstairs with you at night. Any thieves bold enough to make their way to the second floor need to be caught. Placing a camera upstairs inside your property is ideal for your peace of mind.
How many cameras do I need?
The number of security cameras you’ll need will depend on a few factors. Firstly, the size of your property and the type of system you choose. It will also depend on where they are placed and what they’re able to see.
