4 Movies Featuring Incredibly Poor Security Systems
We all dream of having a home from the movies. But would it really be so great? Maybe not… Through the years, our favourite flicks have provided some terrible examples of home security. While loose windows or poorly monitored surroundings might have been ideal for the plot, they’re not something you want to emulate on your own property.
Read on as we look at 4 movies where poor security took a starring role.
1. 101 Dalmatians
When Cruella De Vil sends Jasper and Horace to steal the Dalmations, they do it by knocking on the door and forcing entry past the Nanny. Seems pretty unstoppable, right? Wrong. With access control and video entry, it’s possible to see who’s visiting before opening the door. That way, you can turn away any unwanted visitors with no chance of them entering your property.
The pups would have never been stolen, with no need to track down and retrieve them. Plenty of time saved and no stress.
2. Home Alone
While Kevin’s DIY security methods were fun to watch, there’s no need to rely on slippery steps and swinging paint pots in your home. First of all, the doors and windows could have been fitted with could have been fitted with Honeywell wireless door/window sensors linked to a Honeywell intruder alarm system and in turn connected to central station for 24/7 emergency response monitoring.
A video surveillance system would have helped too, as Kevin’s parents would have spotted the trouble in their home a bit sooner. That said, they might not have noticed at all given they already forgot their own son…

3. Matilda
Nobody is routing for Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, but she could probably use some better home security. Miss Honey and Matilda have no problem getting to her property, which becomes an issue when she leaves the door unlocked.
With security gates on her large inherited property, she could have prevented anyone getting anywhere near the front door. They would have also stopped Matilda re-entering later in the movie to steal back Miss Honey’s beloved doll. It’s probably best to lock the front door in the first place though…
4. The Grinch
Like Father Christmas, the Grinch goes down people’s chimneys to get into their homes. Unlike Santa, he steals the presents rather than leaving them. If the security systems had motion sensors, they would have detected an intruder was in the property regardless of how they got in.
The alarms could have alerted the authorities and the Grinch would have been arrested before he even had a chance to go through a heart-warming epiphany.
