4 Security Resolutions for the New Year
The new year is the perfect time for a fresh start, whether it’s a healthier lifestyle, a change in career or just learning a new skill. In truth, however, most new year’s resolutions fade away by the end of January. Why not make a resolution you can keep, by improving your home security? Read on as we look at 4 security resolutions for 2019.
1. Ditch the bad habits
It’s easy to slip into bad habits with your home. From hiding keys under the doormat to leaving doors unlocked when you go to the shop, these can all jeopardise your home’s security. Our first resolution for 2019 is to cut out the bad habits and put your home’s security at the forefront of your mind.
Make sure you lock all points of entry – doors and windows – when leaving your home, and be sure to set your intruder alarm each time. Don’t leave any keys in ‘hidden places’ either. Burglars know exactly where to look, so it’s best to leave any emergency keys with a friend or relative you trust.
2. Invest in cameras
Surveillance cameras are the best way to deter criminals. They show that, if anyone tries anything, the camera will be watching – and it will only be a matter of time before they’re caught. Needless to say, it also makes it much easier to catch culprits should they go ahead with a burglary.
The new year is the perfect time to equip your property with a state-of-the-art video surveillance system. You’ll get peace of mind throughout 2019 and long into the future, with no worries about breaking your resolution come the end of January.
3. Fire and water
While you’ve got home security fresh in your mind, it’s worth considering the threat posed by fire and water. Every home is at risk from fire or flooding from their appliances. But it’s easy to push these to the back of your mind once you get back into the swing of things.
Seize the new year opportunity by installing fire and smoke alarms to provide a crucial early warning in your home. An effective leak management system can also detect any leaks or floods and shut off water flow from your pipes or appliances.
4. Smart home technology
In our last blog post, we discussed a few smart home trends that look set to take off in 2019. Among those was smart home security, making 2019 the perfect time to get on board. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean having your entire home controlled by artificial intelligence. Far from it.
Installing automated lighting in your home is a small smart home improvement that can make a big difference. Turn lights on and off from your phone while away from your property to deter thieves by creating the impression that somebody is home.
