5 Home Security Products We Love from ISC West 2018
State-of-the-art home security was the order of the day at ISC West 2018. The largest security trade show in the US took place in Las Vegas this April. And, of course, the Selectron team was there to sample the latest and greatest innovations in alarms, surveillance and access control.
Read on as we take a closer look at the event and shine a spotlight on five of our favourite home security products.
About ISC West 2018
ISC West is a security trade show like no other. The event ran for three days in total with over 30,000 security professionals in attendance. This year, there were even dedicated expositions for ‘Unmanned Security and Safety’ and ‘Connected Security’.
As well as networking, attendees had the chance to sample new products and cutting-edge technology. Everything from video surveillance to smart homes and unmanned security products were on offer from over 1,000 exhibitors. So, let’s take a look at our top five finds:
1. Nightingale Blackbird Block 2
It’s almost impossible to come away from the ISC West 2018 and not talk at length about the Nightingale Blackbird Block 2. It’s a fully-autonomous drone that flies above your property to monitor its security.
And when we say autonomous, we mean it. The drone charges itself, lands itself, takes off to respond to alarms and transmits live video on its own. It even reports its own maintenance needs.
Wow! Check it out…
Best of all, though, is that it’s something you can rely upon. Eight motors provide a high degree of redundancy, with a high-capacity battery and industrial strength frame made from lightweight carbon fiber.
The drone flies in any weather, day or night. And can transmit video around the clock with a HD daytime sensor and thermal sensor for the night. This seriously impressive piece of technology is the future of property guarding without a doubt.
2. Arkiv Video Analytics
Another cutting-edge display was the Arkiv video management software (VMS). On show at the Inaxsys booth, the open-platform system had everyone in awe at what it could offer:
- Facial recognition
- License plate recognition
- Audio detection
- Visual scene situational analysis
- Directional object movement
- Sophisticated object detection, including multiple objects, missing objects and object left behind
- Camera movement
- Blurring detection
In addition to these features, the software comes with some innovative built-in tools. Timelapse Compressor displays all moving objects from a set period, allowing users to select those objects to jump to playback of that moment. So, if you spot an intruder or vehicle of interest, you can simply click on them to see the moment they were under surveillance.
Target and Follow is another smart innovation, which allows users to track a moving object. Once selected, the system automatically obtains detailed imagery of that specific object across multiple cameras. Even better, the Arkiv VMS is available in Bermuda, exclusively from Selectron.
3. Inaxsys Eqlipse Access Control
Also on show from Anaxsys was the Eclipse Access Control product range. The system provides full access control management, with integration suites available. It’s easy to install and more cost effective for the client too. Using the Eclipse LED Keypad, users can control multiple zones from one single access point.
The Eclipse system also includes floor plan access when controlling doors. This user-friendly feature removes any confusion and makes access control easier than ever. Who said home security has to be complicated?
4. Honeywell Intruder Alarms
Honeywell was another exhibitor high on the list of superb developments at ISC West 2018. They are reshaping the user experience when it comes to intruder alarms – putting it in the palm of the client’s hand. From standalone cameras to motion sensors with cameras built in – everything can be controlled and reviewed easily by users.
In the coming months, Honeywell will be releasing all the home security equipment to (literally) put the power in your hands. This will include new sleek keypads and user features to really simplify the whole process.
5. Honeywell Total Connect – featuring Alexa
People want convenience in every aspect of modern life. That’s why voice technology is taking off. It allows people to search online, order food and make phone calls without actually using their hands. It was only a matter of time before this extended to the home, with homeowners now able to control their music, TV and even lights through so-called voice assistants.
Home security is no exception. Honeywell’s latest Total Connect Remote Services will now work with Amazon Alexa – allowing users to control their security system using just their voice. Want to see the front of the house? Simply ask Alexa to show the live camera feed on a compatible device such as an Amazon Fire TV, Fire tablet or Fire stick through the TV.
As part of their Total Connect service, Honeywell also unveiled Partitions. This offers remote control of security for eight partitions (areas) of a property. This allows users to arm and disarm sensors or assign users for specific areas of their property. And, as with Honeywell’s other products, they can do so from the palm of their hand. It’s home security with ultimate ease and convenience.
